VI Peel Body

The VI Peel isn’t just for the face! It can also be used to treat concerns like body acne, surgical scars, stretch marks, sun damage, and discoloration in sensitive areas.

During your consultation, your provider will determine the best peel for you.

To ensure optimal results from your peel, follow these guidelines:

  • Discontinue using active skincare ingredients (e.g., retinoids, hydroquinone, salicylic acid, glycolic acid) approximately five days before your peel.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure for two weeks before your appointment and during the weeks following your chemical peel.
  • Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin.
  • Bring a wide-brimmed hat for sun protection on your way home, as sunscreen cannot be applied immediately after the peel.

  • First, your provider will ensure that your skin is clean. You may be asked to wash your face with a gentle cleanser prior to starting the VI Peel.
  • Your skin will be prepped with acetone. This is done to degrease your skin and to ensure that the peel has optimal penetration and maximum effect.
  • Petrolatrum will then be applied to various creases, such as the corners of the eyes, nose and mouth to protect it from the chemical peel.
  • The peel will then be applied in a systematic manner, covering all surfaces in a uniform pattern. Many passes will be performed until the desired result is achieved. It is normal to experience a sensation of tingling and minor burning during this time. Your provider will be checking in with you regularly to ask about your level of burning and tingling.
  • You will be provided a fan to help ensure comfort during the VI peel
  • When you are done, your skin will have a uniform orange to tan hue. This is normal and the desired end point of the VI peel.

Peeling Process

Peeling varies between individuals. While some experience large sheets of peeling, others may only notice subtle flaking. This variance does not affect the peel’s efficacy. Most patients will peel on days 3–7 post-treatment, while body peels may take longer.

Aftercare Instructions:

  • A post-peel kit will be provided with instructions. It is importantly to follow the aftercare instructions precisely. The kit contains a cleanser, post-peel medicated wipes, a soothing moisturizer, and sunscreen.
  • Wash off the peel four hours after application and follow the provided instructions on how to apply the post-peel wipes.
  • Avoid picking or pulling peeling skin. If necessary, trim loose skin with clean scissors.
  • Avoid using washcloths or facial brushes.

Restrictions:

  • Avoid sun exposure and heat-related activities (e.g., saunas, hot yoga) during the peeling process.
  • Refrain from using active skincare products (e.g., retinoids, acids) until peeling is complete. A gentle cleanser, the VI Peel moisturizer and a sunscreen is all you need during this week.
  • Avoid exercise for 72–96 hours after the peel, or for a full week if prone to melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

The number of peels required depends on your skin concerns and goals. A series of 3–5 peels, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, is typically recommended for best results. For maintenance, quarterly peels are ideal.

Yes, the VI Peel can be paired with neurotoxins like Botox or Dysport during the same visit. Lip and cheek fillers can also be performed at the same time. Other cosmetic treatments, such as microneedling or lasers, should be spaced apart. Your provider will guide you on the best treatment timeline.

The VI Peel is suitable for most patients. However, it should be avoided if you:

  • Are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Have active rashes, cold sores or infections in the treatment area.
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Are currently taking Accutane.

Patients with autoimmune conditions should consult their provider to determine if the VI Peel is appropriate.
