Microneedling with PRP

What is microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment that uses the body’s healing response and your own blood plasma to stimulate collagen production and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, and other skin imperfections. Microneedling with PRP is suitable for all skin types.

PRP is a concentrate of platelets and growth factors that are derived from the patient’s own blood. These growth factors promote wound healing and tissue repair.  A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn and spun to separate out the platelets and growth factors.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using fine needles to create small punctures in the skin. These punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, resulting in the production of collagen and elastin, which can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin imperfections.

When combined with PRP, microneedling can offer even more significant benefits for the skin. When applied to the skin during microneedling, PRP can enhance the healing and rejuvenation processes, resulting in improved skin texture, tone, and overall health.

During your consultation with Dr. Devorah Shagalov, she will review your medical history and medications, examine your skin and listen to your aesthetic concerns, goals and expectations.

She will explain the Microneedling with PRP procedure and its benefits, how many treatments she recommends. This is your time to ask questions so that you can make an informed decision.

The procedure begins with the collection of a small sample of the patient’s blood, which is then processed in a centrifuge to separate out the platelet-rich plasma.

Next, the sterile dermaroller is used to create microscopic channels on the surface of skin. Then, the PRP is then applied to the skin, where it is absorbed deep into the skin to promote collagen production and rejuvenation.

The entire procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour to complete. There is minimal pain and discomfort associated with the procedure.

The treatment is typically performed in a series of 2-3 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, depending on each patient’s desired outcome and skin conditions. After the procedure, patients may experience redness and slight swelling, but this typically subsides within a few days and returns to normal within a week.

  • Improves skin texture and tone: Microneedling can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, reduces pore size and other skin imperfections by promoting the production of collagen and elastin.
  • Enhanced healing and rejuvenation: The growth factors and platelets in PRP can enhance the healing and rejuvenation processes, resulting in improved skin texture, tone, and overall health.
  • Reduces the appearance of scars: PRP can also help to reduce the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars and other types of scars.
  • Reduces the appearance of stretch marks: PRP can also help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
  • May promote hair growth: Some studies suggest that PRP may promote hair growth when used in conjunction with microneedling for hair loss treatment.

Microneedling with PRP is an effective and non-invasive way to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin. It is considered a safe procedure with minimal downtime and minimal side effects. There is no risk of rejection because your own blood is used.

While microneedling is considered to be safe for most people, it’s not suitable for everyone. It should be avoided by those who have active acne, open wounds, or keloid scars, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It’s also important to choose a reputable practitioner.

After the procedure, patients may experience some redness and swelling, but these side effects typically subside within a few days. Some people may experience slight discomfort, skin dryness, or peeling, but these side effects are temporary.

It’s generally recommended for patients to avoid their usual skin care routine and makeup for 48 hours following the procedure. Dr Shagalov will recommend products to use during that time. It is also important to avoid sun exposure, use sunscreen, and avoid picking at the treated area, to ensure the best results from the treatment. It’s also important to maintain a healthy diet, stay hydrated, and get adequate sleep to support the healing process.

Overall, microneedling with PRP is a safe and effective nonsurgical option for rejuvenating the appearance of your skin, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, promoting collagen production, and delivering a youthful radiance.
