Jeuveau
What is Jeuveau?
Jeuveau is a neurotoxin approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines on the face, such as frown lines between the eyebrow also called glabellar lines. It is a type of neuromodulator, similar to products such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. Jeuveau was developed by the company Evolus, and it was first approved by the FDA in February 2019.
Jeuveau is made from a highly purified form of botulinum toxin type A, the same active ingredient found in other neuromodulator medications. The medication works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, resulting in a smoothing of the skin. Jeuveau is injected into the muscles of the face using a fine needle, and the effects typically last for about three to four months.
The procedure for receiving Jeuveau injections is generally similar to that of other neuromodulator products. Dr. Shagalov will evaluate your skin and listen to your concerns, goals and expectations. Then, she will formulate a treatment plan to address your aesthetic goals.
She will clean the area to be treated and mark the precise injection sites. Jeuveau is then injected into the muscles using a fine needle. However, she may offer topical numbing cream if you are sensitive to discomfort or nervous. The injections are usually given in small amounts, and the entire procedure typically takes only a few minutes.
After the injection, you may experience some discomfort or swelling at the injection sites, but these side effects usually subside within a few hours.
The effects of Jeuveau typically become noticeable within a few days and reach their maximum effect within about one to two weeks.
Common side effects of Jeuveau include pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, as with any medication, there is a risk of more serious side effects, such as an allergic reaction or eyelid drooping. If you experience any unusual symptoms after receiving a Jeuveau injection, you should contact Dr. Shagalov and seek medical attention right away.
The results of Jeuveau typically last for about three to four months, after which the procedure can be repeated. To maintain the desired effects, repeat treatments are usually administered before the effects of previous treatment start to fade.
Overall, Jeuveau is a safe and effective treatment option for wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It is similar to other neuromodulator products, such as Botox and Dysport. As with any medication, it is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with Dr. Shagalov before receiving treatment.
